Q. What happens if the patient needs a wheelchair?
Many patients will require a wheelchair to assist with their mobility. Those individuals that are not able to walk on admission to the rehabilitation unit, will have a seating assessment within the first few days of arriving.
The Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist conduct the seating assessment. Once this has been completed the Occupational Therapist will prescribe the most appropriate wheelchair to be used.
Q. The patient looks uncomfortable in the wheelchair, what should I do?
The wheelchairs used in the rehabilitation unit are intricate and expensive machines. They have adjustable parts that are individually aligned to best suit each individual's dimensions.
if you have any queries about the patient's posture or the wheelchair, please do not adjust the wheelchair. Consult the Occupational therapist for assistance.
