Heavendise

Sylvia Miles was 15 when she woke up from a four-month coma in The Prince Henry Hospital following a motor vehicle accident which left her paralysed and brain damaged more than twenty years ago.

Sylvia's self-published autobiography Heavendise provides an insight into the mind of someone waking from a coma and enduring the challenges of rehabilitation. However, Heavendise is also a celebration of survival.
Chapters in the book include:

  • Disobedience
  • Motherhood
  • The ongoing trial
  • Turning point
  • The meaning of love

... and many more.

Sylvia's book explores the far reaching effects of brain injury on both the individual and the community as a whole. It also has particular relevance for women, people from non-English speaking backgrounds, and the experiences of people from broken homes and families.
