The Campbelltown Maternity Unit was established in 1986 and cares for women within
its role delineation of level 4 / 5. Currently with the combined activity for
both hospitals, approximately 3000 women are confined annually.
This will reduce, once Camden is recommissioned, to approximately 2400 to 2000
confinements per year.
Obstetric Specialist Care is provided to both hospitals by a group of six
Visiting Medical Officers and one Medical Director Staff Specialist.
There are four registrar accredited training positions rotating from Liverpool
Hospital, and two career medical officers, as well as providing training for
medical students.
Midwifery Training is conducted in conjunction with two universities, the
University of Western Sydney and University of Wollongong. There are
differences in each program and intakes occur in February for Wollongong and
February and July for Western Sydney.
