If you discover a break in your skin:

• irrigate the area with saline,
• apply a sterile dressing,
• continue to dress the wound until it has completely healed,
• don't use antiseptics - they slow healing,
• don't leave a wound open to the air - this makes the wound vulnerable to infection, and
• if concerned, see your  doctor.
