Skincare ...

Check your feet every day for:

  • blisters;
  • scratches;
  • changes in colour;
  • cuts;
  • cracks;
  • swelling;
  • corns;
  • discharge/bleeding, and
  • callus.

This constant checking is important as you may have lost sensation in your feet and have suffered an injury without realising it.

Other do's and don'ts:

  • always wear socks or stockings with shoes to prevent rubbing;
  • never walk barefoot;
  • do not use corn plasters or any other commercial product containing acids;
  • avoid extreme temperatures (such as putting your feet directly in front of a heater);
  • cut toenails straight across, file the corners to prevent sharp edges;
  • wash your feet daily - showers are best;
  • don't soak your feet;
  • dry well especially between your toes, and
  • if the skin on your feet is dry, moisturise regularly.
