AOP Forward
| The Area Operations Plan follows the SWSAHS
Strategic Directions Statement and Implementation Plan 1998-2003 which identified key
challenges for the Area Health Service for the future. One of the tasks arising from the Strategic
Directions Statement was the development of an Area Operations Plan. The Area Operations Plan has been developed to provide an Area-wide planning framework to deal with the future we want. The Plan brings together the two streams of SWSAHSs purpose of Better Health, Good Health Care and aims to assist in achieving greater equity, effectiveness, efficiency and acceptability for the Area Health Service. By considering what the future may hold for SWSAHS, we have the opportunity to be proactive and create the future we want, rather than simply reacting to the changes happening around us. As well as doing things differently, this means engaging both staff and the entire community of South Western Sydney in deciding how health care can best be provided and how better health for all can ultimately be achieved. The Plan identifies a number of key issues for the Area to 2006 that we will need to consider. Broad strategies and targets related to each of the Areas four objectives of equity, effectiveness, efficiency and acceptability have also been included in the Plan. While the Plan represents a significant achievement for SWSAHS and I commend it to you, its completion means the start of the detailed planning and implementation necessary to drive the change we want.
