LIVERPOOL STAGE 2

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In May 1990 the Minister for Health announced the development of Liverpool Hospital as a full teaching and referral hospital.

A capital budget of $185 million was allocated for the development of Stage 1 as proposed in the Functional Brief and Master Development Control Plan. Stage 1 is complete and currently being commissioned for use. Whilst the completion of this development markedly improves the Hospital, it is now important to plan for future expansion and funding.

Changes have also occurred in this time to the delivery of medical services. In particular there has been an increasing demand for day services, ambulatory care and non-inpatient services. Ramifications of new proposed funding arrangements will affect the future development of the Hospital, as will the increased networking with other hospitals in the Area. The obvious benefits derived from the co-location of a private hospital will affect the master planning of the site and of provision of services that could be shared with a private facility.

This study has been done basically to determine options for Stage 2 of the redevelopment of the Hospital for the next 10 years i.e. until 2006. It is intended to provide the hospital with a forward planning basis for the provision of health services and models of care to suit future trends and conditions of health delivery programs. The findings of this study could form an input to the preparation of a Project Procurement Feasibility Plan for the campus beyond 1996.
