TITLE: Torches of Freedom
PROJECT COORDINATOR: Balwinder Sidhu
PROJECT PARTNERSHIPS: GP Unit, Cabramatta Youth team, FLYHT, Community organisations.
PROJECT SUMMARY: Smoking is the most preventable cause of illness in Australia and smoking rates are showing a decline except for the young people. Research shows that initiation of smoking behaviour is well established before the end of teenage years. The range of programs currently being undertaken have not been documented. The aim of the project is to map the existing tobacco control programs to target young women in the sector to get a comprehensive & informed picture of effectiveness of early interventions used.Once the information is gathered a forum will be organised to bring the interested parties together, to present information and develop working parties to address and implement HP initiatives for young women around smoking issues.
TARGET GROUP: Young women of age group 12-25 years.

To identify a better practice model of tobacco control program for young women in Fairfield.
STRATEGIES:
Process Activities
-Literature search. -Identification of educational material used in tobacco control program. -Identify the activities/projects/programs to target young women. -Collating information. -Conduct a forum to present information gathered. -Identify appropriate HP initiatives for further development.
