There are other doctors involved in treating cancer at Liverpool Hospital, and the medical specialist at Cancer Therapy Centre may refer patients to another specialist doctor for an opinion or treatment. This might be to a surgeon or the cancer genetics service for example.
| Multidisciplinary Clinics |
Often to treat cancer effectively it requires input from a range of medical specialists. Several of the medical clinics are arranged to have the different doctors available at the one time. Appointments at the hospital may be arranged so the patient can attend one of these clinics. Some of the multidisciplinary cancer clinics conducted at Liverpool are:

Every Monday afternoon radiotherapy, breast surgery and medical oncology clinics run side by side. This allows patients who need to see more than one discipline, more efficient access to clinicians. At 5.00 p.m. there is a general meeting of all interested clinicians to discuss the referred cases. Radiologists, pathologists, surgeons and radiation and medical oncologists attend this meeting. Our breast liaison nurse also attends the meeting. Registrars, Medical students, and General Practitioners are also welcome to attend as this clinic provides teaching and patient discussion opportunities.
| Colorectal Cancer Multidiscplinary Clinic |
The South Western Colorectal Tumour Group consists of a group of clinicians throughout the South-Western Health Region and includes Surgeons, Pathologists, Gastro-Enterologists, Medical and Radiation Oncologists. The group meets for educational meetings at Liverpool Hospital on Saturday mornings 3-4 times per year. For more details please contact the secretary -> Dr Andrew Kneebone on (02) 9828 5282.
| Upper GI Cancer Multidiscplinary Clinic |
This group consists of Surgeons, Gastro-Enterologists, Radiologists, Medical and Radiation Oncologists with an interest in upper GI malignancy from the South-Western area. They meet at Liverpool Hospital on a fortnightly basis at 7.30 a.m. on alternate Mondays. For more details please contact Prof. S. Deane on 9828 4300.
| Head and Neck Cancer Multidiscplinary Clinic |
This clinic is a patient-oriented multidisciplinary assessment clinic. The group consists of pathologists, surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists, speech therapists and dentists with an interest in Head and Neck cancer. The group sees patients on alternate Tuesday afternoons in the outpatient department of Liverpool Hospital. For more details and booking information please contact Dr. Allan Fowler on 9828 5276.
| Lymphoma Multidiscplinary Clinic |
This clinic is a multi-disciplinary discussion group that meet regularly (alternate Tuesday afternoons) to discuss lymphoma patient management. The group consists of haematologists, medical and radiation oncologists and pathologists with an interest in lymphoma.
| Gynaecological Cancer Multidiscplinary Clinic |
The gynaecological oncology multidisciplinary meeting is on
each Thursday at 1.30pm in Anatomical Pathology at Liverpool Hospital.
The members of the group are:

The format of the meeting is case discussion with clinical presentation, pathology and radiology review, and management discussion. Other issues relevant to gynaecological oncology are also discussed. The aims of the meeting are:
1. improve communicaion between specialities
2. improve patient care
3. develop consensus management guidelines
4. participate in clinical trials development
Patients cannot be directly referred to the meeting. Referrals should be to one of the gynaecological oncologists who will present the patient's clinical details at the meeting.
| Lung Cancer Multidiscplinary Clinic |
A group of clinicians interested in management of lung cancer. Includes respiratory physicians, radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons. They meet at 8am till 9am every Monday on Level 1, Cancer Therapy Centre Administration. Dr Vinod and Dr Della-Fiorentina have a Lung Cancer Clinic between 9am and 1130am every Monday, and an appointment MUST be made to attend this clinic.

Oncology Department |
The Radiation Oncology Department currently has 6 Staff Specialists,
1 research fellow position and 3 training Registrars. There are 3 linear accelerators
and the department sees approximately 1000 new patients a year.

3.7 Staff Specialists and 1 Advanced Trainee staff the Department of Medical Oncology. The Department saw over 1100 new patients and administered over 6000 courses of outpatient chemotherapy in the ambulatory Day Centre in 2001.
The Department is a major contributor to local and international clinical trial research, and is involved in undergraduate teaching with the University of New South Wales, as well as resident, registrar and nursing education at Liverpool Hospital.

| Palliative
Care |
The Department of Palliative Care provide inpatient and outpatient
consultative services to patients whose disease is not responsive to curative
treatments. There were 250 medical and 650 nursing referrals to the service
in 1998. A Staff Specialist, Medical Registrar, Clinical Nurse Consultant and
a Clinical Nurse Specialist staff the Department.

There is an Oncology Registrar appointed to work with each Cancer Specialist. Patients will find during their CTC or Oncology/Haematology ward treatment that the day to day medical care may be provided by the relevant Registrar, These are fully qualified doctors training to be medical specialists in one of the cancer specialities. some of the other junior doctors in the hospital ward are called medical residents or interns.
| Pathology/Radiology and other tests |
Treating cancer often means having a range of pathology and radiology tests. Dependning on the test, the patient may be able to have this at Liverpool Hospital or one of the outside services in South Western Sydney.
| Campbelltown/Bankstown/Bowral Clinics |
There are outreach clinics in Medical Oncology at Campbelltown and Bowral. Radiation Oncology doctors attend clinics at Campbelltown, Bowral and Bankstown. Haematology clinics are run at Bankstown. Chemotherapy clinics and clinic services are also offered by Medical Oncologists based at Bankstown Hospital. There is a limited chemotherapy service in Bowral. A Palliative Care clinic is run by the Braeside Hospital specialist at Prairiewood.
