Library

The STARTTS library is a collection of books, reports, conference papers, periodicals, videocassettes, audiocassettes, and vertical file articles. (Approximately 3,500 items)

The collection was developed, and is maintained, to serve STARTTS staff, consultants, students and clients.

Areas covered by the collection include:

  • United Nations and NGO publications covering Human Rights, refugees, asylum seekers, etc.
  • Australian Government / New South Wales Government / Local Government publications concerned with general health services, mental health services, services to NESBs, immigration policy and services, refugee and asylum seekers policy and services, etc.
  • General works on psychology, psychiatry, counselling, somatic therapies, social work etc.
  • Works specific to the treatment of torture/trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, etc.
  • Ancillary works such as books on crafts, language, literature, history, etc.

The books, videos, reports, etc. are fully catalogued and shelved in Dewey Decimal Classification order. Articles are housed in filing cabinets using an in-house classification scheme. All items are accessible through a PC based catalogue using the CDS/ISIS database and HURIDOCS classification scheme.

Students are welcome to use the library's resources. However, they must first make an appointment with the Librarian (Tuesdays and Wednesdays only). They may not borrow items but, for a small fee, they may photocopy material.
