Friends of STARTTS is a non-profit,voluntary organisation involved in raising funds and community awareness about the work of STARTTS (NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors).

Who Can Join

Any individual or organisation can be a Friend of STARTTS. We have Friends from Schools, Service Clubs, Corporate and Small Businesses, Universities, Multicultural Groups, Language School, Colleges, Libraries, Shops, Embassies, Post Officers, Government Departments and Media.

What we do

Friends arrange events of all sorts - from concerts to dinners, music and dance events, forums, and functions such as the United Nations Day in Support of Victims of Torture to raise awareness and funds.

Australia's refugee intake, under its signatory responsibilities to United Nations Human Rights legislation, is approx 12,000 per year. Many refugees have difficulty accessing mainstream services, due to past experiences in their former countries. Almost 50% of Refugees settle in NSW and it is estimated that over 60% of those have experienced torture or trauma. The psychological effects can last for years, however early assistance can reduce long term effects. STARTTS service aims to do this and Friends to bring awareness.
