Friends of STARTTS was established in 1992 as a non-profit organization to support STARTTS activities. Working together not only assists in the raising of funds for specific services, but also assists in the education of the wider community on our collective responsibility to assist torture survivors develop a new life.

Purpose

Friends of STARTTS aims to raise awareness of health, legal and welfare professionals and the community at large about the needs of survivors of tortures and trauma and their families. As a registered charity, Friends raises funds to maintain the independent function of STARTTS and is committed to working with refugee communities to develop self help projects and programs.

Structure

Friends of STARTTS is a volunteer organisation. The Management Committee is elected annually, with sub committees being formed for special projects.

Activities

In the past Friends have been involved in organizing numerous refugee art exhibitions, music recitals, information stalls. We have funded projects as varied as hydrotherapy classes for Spanish– speaking women, Youth Camps, a Middle-Eastern Youth Video Project, research, board-games for the Families in Cultural Transition Program and much much more.

By joining Friends you will be helping STARTTS assist survivors of torture. In return you will receive a copy of Transitions magazine four times a year and you will be invited to join in our campaigns and attend future STARTTS events. Learn how you can get involved with raising awareness on refugee issues, support grassroots programs at STARTTS, and have some fun doing it!
