The main story in this issue focuses on internal displacement of refugees as a result of war, human rights violations or disasters. The author, Olga Yoldi looks at developing patterns in population displacement and the reasons governments react violently towards a group of people and how international legislation and the lack of a systematic approach has affected these people.

" Within hours of arriving I am hit with a sense of the oppression, of the quiet desperation of the people. As I walk down a street, a voice calls out the freedom slogan 'Viva Timor L'este!'." writes Peter Williamson, a freelance journalist and photographer. Peter reports on  his impressions and experiences in East Timor prior to Indonesia’s approval of a vote for independence.
