MCHS is a specialised service that aims to improve the health
and welfare of people from non-English speaking backgrounds
(NESB).
This is mainly achieved through:
- Implementation of strategies that increase access to
health services for NESB people;
- Development and implementation of community development
health improvement programs; and
- Working in partnership with other health professionals
and community and non-government organisations to improve
health outcomes for NESB people.
Services offered:
- Providing information to NESB people on health issues
and on how to access health services.
- Conducting a range of health information and improvement
programs based on the community development model
- Developing and implementing strategies to address barriers
identified for NESB clients.
- Assisting in identifying community needs.
- Providing cross-cultural training programs, cultural information
and in-services to health service providers.
- Providing resource information to ethnic radio and print
media.
- Providing referral information to NESB clients.
Client Group
Fairfield Multicultural Health Service targets people from
non-English speaking backgrounds. The service employs seven
Multicultural Health Workers who work with the following communities:
Vietnamese, Assyrian, Khmer, Lao, Spanish Speaking, Croatian,
Serbian, Macedonian, Bosnian and smaller and emerging communities
in the Fairfield area.
Hours of operation
MCHS is operating from the Cabramatta Community Health Centre,
which is open from 8:30 am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.

at the Cabramatta Community Health Centre.
Language services provision
The service employs Multicultural Health Workers who speak
the following languages: Vietnamese, Khmer, Assyrian, Lao,
Spanish, Serbian and Croatian.
