POS is a specialist paediatric nursing referral service that
provides home-based nursing care for children, living in the
Fairfield LGA.
Services offered:
- Dressings (surgical, wound, burns)
- Medications (intravenous, intramuscular, sub-cutaneous,
rectal)
- Education (related to a new diagnosis, new medication,
or treatment regime)
- Respiratory assessment and support with asthma management
or other respiratory conditions such as croup, pneumonia
and bronchiolitis
- Fluid assessment for child with gastroenteritis requiring
monitoring of oral rehydration
- Home enteral feeding program - insertion of NG tubes,
support with gastrostomy care
- Assistance with equipment loans and PADP applications
- Chronic illness - provide Parent/family education and
long term support to assist families to care for their child
at home
- Constipation management & re-training regimes
Client Group
POS provides home-based paediatric nursing care for children
aged 0-18 years living in the Fairfield Local Government Area.
Between the ages of 15-18yrs, the adolescent must still be
at school.
Hours of Operation
8.30am-8.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am-5pm Saturday, Sunday
& public holidays.

Eligibility or entry Criteria
Child must have been seen by a medical officer prior to referral
for nursing intervention. Referral criteria apply...These
include:
- The child must live in the Fairfield LGA
- The child should be aged 0-16.
- There must be an acceptable medical plan of care to follow.
- There must be a medical officer overseeing the care of
the child
- There must a carer available 24 hours per day.
- Phone access is desirable.
- Parents must consent to referral being made to POS
Is there Translated Information for Clients
POS brochures are available in Vietnamese, Khmer, English,
Chinese, Arabic, & Samoan.
Asthma Fact Sheets are available in Vietnamese, Khmer, English,
Chinese and Arabic. Other various languages.
Language Service Provision
POS staff work with the interpreter service and use both
face-to-face interpreters as well as telephone interpreters
to undertake home visits.
